The Toyota Tercel, also known as the Toyota Corolla II and Toyota Corsa in different markets, was a popular subcompact car produced by Toyota from 1978 to 1999. It went through five generations and was available in five body styles, positioned in size between the Corolla and the Starlet. Manufactured at the Takaoka plant in Toyota City, Japan, the Tercel shared its platform with models like the Cynos and the Starlet. One unique feature of the Tercel was that it was the first front-wheel-drive vehicle made by Toyota, despite having a longitudinally mounted engine. Initially sold at Toyota Corolla Stores in Japan, it was later rebranded and sold at different Toyota dealer locations
