Vanden Plas

Vanden Plas, a storied name in the automotive world, began its journey in Belgium in 1870 as a carriage company before shifting its focus to luxury automobiles. The founders, the Van den Plas family, embarked on this transition by establishing a base in Antwerp. By 1913, they were drawn to the burgeoning British market, setting up shop in Kingsbury, London. Here, they carved a niche for themselves by crafting opulent coachworks for prestigious marques like Bentley, Alvis, and Rolls-Royce. The original Vanden Plas automobiles became synonymous with luxury, enhancing chassis with bespoke, high-quality bodies that appealed to the elite. A landmark model that defined their early automotive era was the 1923 Bentley 3 Litre, adorned with a custom Vanden Plas body that set the standard for luxury automobiles of the time. Today, the Vanden Plas name lives on, primarily through its association with the Jaguar and Daimler marques, under which it has produced several distinguished models. Despite facing challenges over the decades, including changes in ownership and shifts in the automotive landscape, the brand continues to be revered for its contributions to automotive elegance and luxury. Its legacy is reflected in the enduring value and appeal of its vehicles, both past and present.
