The Volvo 164 was a 4-door, 6-cylinder luxury sedan that debuted at the Paris Motor Show in October 1968 and was introduced as a 1969 model. A total of 146,008 units of the 164 were manufactured before it was succeeded by the mid-size luxury 264 in 1975. Some sources suggest that 153,179 models were built. This model marked Volvo's re-entry into the luxury car segment, after the discontinuation of the PV 60 series in 1950, and it was the brand's first six-cylinder vehicle since the PV800 was phased out in 1958.
