Zastava

Zastava, a significant marque in the automobile industry, hails from Kragujevac, Serbia. Its storied journey began in 1953, though its foundations were laid back in 1853, originally as an arms manufacturer before transitioning to automotive production under license from Fiat in 1955. This strategic pivot was marked by the production of their inaugural car, the Zastava 750, which was based on the Fiat 600. This model, affectionately nicknamed "Fića" in its home country, became a symbol of Yugoslav and Eastern European motoring for decades. Over the years, Zastava gained a reputation for producing durable, affordable vehicles. However, the 1990s brought significant challenges due to the geopolitical upheavals in Eastern Europe, severely impacting the company’s operations and market presence. Today, Zastava has pivoted its focus towards the production of commercial vehicles, navigating through its past financial troubles and market dynamics. While it no longer produces passenger cars, Zastava's legacy as a car manufacturer endures in its current offerings and its lasting impact on the automotive industry in the Balkans and beyond. Through resilience and adaptation, Zastava continues to drive forward, embodying a history of innovation and survival.
