The Ferrari 488 Spider is the open-top variant of the 488 GTB, sharing the same 3.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine producing 660 horsepower and retaining the mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout of the F142M platform. It uses a retractable hardtop rather than a traditional soft top, allowing the roof to stow in around 14 seconds while preserving the coupe's structural rigidity and aerodynamic profile. As the first turbocharged open-top Ferrari in the mid-engine V8 lineage since the F40 era, the 488 Spider carried particular significance, bringing forced induction back to the convertible segment of Ferrari's range after the naturally aspirated 458 Spider. It retains the full performance credentials of the closed car, including the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and the active aerodynamic elements that define the 488 generation.
