This generation of the MX-5 introduced the retractable hardtop variant, enabling the roof to fold or deploy in a quick 12 seconds without compromising trunk space. The NC1 model years from 2006 to 2008 showcased Yasushi Nakamuta's distinctive exterior design, featuring no shared components with its predecessor NB model except for fender-mounted turn signal lights in some markets and rear differential internals.
