The Meyers Manx brand, synonymous with the iconic dune buggy, was born from the ingenuity of Bruce Meyers in the 1960s in Southern California. Its creation marked a significant turning point in recreational automotive design, with Meyers pioneering the use of fiberglass for the buggy’s body. This innovation not only reduced weight but also allowed for unprecedented versatility in design and utility. The original Meyers Manx, known affectionately as "Old Red," was built on a modified Volkswagen Beetle chassis, which proved to be a robust and economical foundation.
This revolutionary vehicle quickly became a symbol of free-spirited adventure, clinching fame with its record-breaking performance in the treacherous 1967 Mexican 1000 rally. The Meyers Manx established itself not just as a fun and functional vehicle but also as a racing legend, capable of tackling challenging terrains with ease.
Today, the Meyers Manx brand continues to thrive, building on its heritage with new innovations while maintaining the joy and simplicity of Bruce Meyers' original vision. The company has recently introduced electric versions of their classic design, embracing modern technology to redefine eco-friendly leisure driving. This transition not only highlights the brand's adaptability but also its ongoing commitment to blending performance with environmental consciousness, proving that the Meyers Manx remains as relevant today as ever.
