The Volkswagen Type 2, also known as the Transporter, Kombi, or Microbus, was a forward control light commercial vehicle launched in 1950 by Volkswagen. It was the second car model produced by the German automaker, with body style variations called different names depending on the region. In the US, it was referred to as the Volkswagen Station Wagon or Bus, while in the UK it was known as the Camper, and in Germany as the Bulli. The Type 2 was designated as such by the factory because it succeeded and was based on Volkswagen's first model, the Type 1 or Beetle.
