By @drivesomeimages · Salzburg and Carinthia, Austria · Driving road

The Grossglockner High Alpine Road runs 48 km from Fusch in Salzburg to Heiligenblut in Carinthia, crossing the main ridge of the Alps at the Hochtor at 2,504 m. Opened in 1935, it was built as a road to enjoy, and it still is: 36 hairpins, smooth surfaces and views of Austria's highest mountain. It is a toll road, open in the warmer months. Take the side roads to the Edelweissspitze and the Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe for the glacier view.
