Trollstigen, the Troll's Ladder, climbs out of the Isterdalen valley in 11 hairpin bends cut into an almost vertical mountainside, with the Stigfossen waterfall crashing down beside the road. At the top, a viewing platform hangs over the edge so you can look straight down the bends you just drove. The route here runs from Åndalsnes over the top and down through the valley to Valldal. Carry on to Geiranger for one of the best days of driving in Europe.
