Audi's go-anywhere wagon is back, and for the first time you can plug it in. The fifth-generation A6 allroad lands with a raised ride, a wider body and a plug-in hybrid option.
Wider, Taller, Meaner
The new allroad is 11 centimetres wider than before, riding on alloy wheels up to 21 inches. Add the chunky body cladding and a lifted stance and it has proper presence.
It is still an A6 Avant underneath, just toughened up for rough roads and bad weather. The look says estate car that is not afraid of a gravel track.
A Plug for the First Time
The headline is the new e-hybrid. It pairs a 2.0-litre TFSI petrol with an electric motor for a combined 367 PS and 500 Nm, the first time an allroad has offered a plug.
That means a chunk of silent electric running for the daily commute, then petrol power when you need the distance. For a car built to wander, that flexibility makes real sense.
The petrol engine alone makes 252 PS, and the electric motor adds up to 105 kW on top. Together they give the allroad genuine pace without leaning on a thirsty big engine.
Or Stick With Diesel
If you cover serious distances, the 3.0-litre V6 TDI is still on the menu, making 299 PS. Audi quotes economy as low as 5.8 litres per 100 km.
Both engines are electrified to some degree, so even the diesel gets a mild-hybrid assist for smoother stop-start and a little extra efficiency.
Built to Wander
Every allroad gets quattro all-wheel drive as standard, plus adaptive air suspension that lifts the body over rough ground. All-wheel steering is on board too, sharpening it in town and steadying it at speed.
The air suspension is the clever bit. Drop it on the motorway for efficiency, raise it on a forest track, and the same car covers both jobs without complaint.
When and How Much
Order books open on June 18, with cars reaching European showrooms in the autumn. Prices start at 77,250 euros.
American buyers will have to wait, with the allroad not expected across the Atlantic until around 2028. For everyone else, the most versatile A6 just got an electric twist.
It is a niche the Germans have long owned, the do-everything luxury estate, and Audi clearly has no intention of giving it up.
