At a glance
It is not slow. It is not fast. It is not ugly. It is not exciting. It is not broken. After six years it is still just... there. Somehow that is the whole review.
The Cerato YD is not a bad looking car. It is just not a memorable one either. You will park it, walk away, and forget what it looks like before you reach the door. It is clean, inoffensive, and completely invisible in a carpark full of its own kind. No one is turning their head. No one is asking questions. This is incognito mode for driving.
Not uncomfortable. Not comfortable. Firmly, unapologetically in the middle. You will not complain about the seats on a long drive but you will not rave about them either. Everything works, everything is where you expect it to be, and nothing surprises you. If you are coming from a Mazda 3 BN hatch though, the space difference is genuinely shocking. Getting kids in and out of the Mazda is a nightmare. The Cerato makes you feel like you are driving something twice the size. Boot space with a pram is a non-issue here, which cannot be said for the Mazda.

Not fast. Not slow. It will get off the lights with some conviction if you ask it to, which is more than you might expect. Handling is genuinely good for what it is. A small Korean sedan has no business feeling as planted as this one does through corners, but here we are. Nothing exciting, nothing to be embarrassed about.
Six years of ownership and it has never given me a reason to hate it. That is actually the review. It just works. Every day, no drama, no personality, no complaints. The problem is it gives you no reason to love it either. It is impossible to get excited about and almost as hard to sell because of it. Buyers do not lust after the Cerato YD. They settle for it, and then they drive it for six years and grudgingly admit it was fine.
Final verdict
The Kia Cerato YD S Premium is the automotive equivalent of a meal you neither enjoyed nor regretted. It does everything adequately, costs you nothing in stress, and asks very little in return. If you need a practical, reliable, surprisingly roomy small car that will never once make your heart race, this is it. I want something cooler. I cannot bring myself to get rid of it.
