There is a whole language buried in the S-chassis world, and it was born out of crash damage. Sil80. Onevia. Strawberry face. Say them out loud and they sound like nonsense. Learn the rule behind them and you can name almost any Nissan front end swap on sight.

It All Started With Broken Noses

Late 1980s Japan. Street racers were binning 180SX front ends into guardrails at a rate that made replacement parts a real problem. Pop-up headlight assemblies were heavy and expensive.

The fix was obvious. S13 Silvia headlights, guards, bonnet and bumper were cheaper, lighter and bolted straight on. Silvia front, 180SX rear, and the Sileighty was born.

The Swap That Went Legit

Most conversions stay underground. This one did not. Tuning outfit Kid's Heart got dealership backing and built 500 official Sileighty cars in 1998, complete with badging, and Nissan trademarked the name.

Then Initial D put one on screen and the thing became folklore. A hack job with a factory blessing and an anime career is a rare résumé.

Onevia: Run It Backwards

Flip the recipe and you get the Onevia. That is a 180SX front, pop-ups and all, grafted onto an S13 Silvia coupe body. One-eighty plus Silvia.

It never caught fire the way the Sil80 did, mostly because pop-up headlight hardware costs real money to buy and fit. North American buyers got the joke for free anyway, since the S13 240SX coupe rolled off the line looking exactly like one.

The Decimal Code Nobody Explains to Beginners

Once the scene ran out of cute names, it went numeric. The chassis code tells you the body, and the decimal tells you the face.

S13.4: S13 body wearing an S14 front
S13.4a: same idea, but with the later kouki S14 face
S14.5: S14 body wearing an S15 front
S13.5: S13 or 180SX body wearing an S15 front

Zenki and kouki matter here too. They mean early and late model, and swapping a kouki face onto a zenki car is one of the cheapest ways to age a build forward a few years.

Why It Is Called a Strawberry Face

This is the best one. In Japanese, one is ichi and five is go. Put them together for S15 and you get ichigo, which also means strawberry.

So any S-chassis running an S15 nose is a strawberry face. It is the most desirable swap going, and prices reflect that.

Sky80 and Other Acts of Heresy

Skyline owners play the same game with fewer cute names. Bolting GT-R guards, bumper and bonnet onto a humble GTS-t is the oldest trick in the R32 book, and it fools nobody who knows where to look at the arches.

R32 to R34 front conversions have been sold as kits for years. Go the other way and drop an R32 Skyline nose onto a 180SX and you land on the Sky80, a mashup that splits rooms harder than a squatted truck.

The Rear End Is the Real Car

Here is the part people forget. The face is bolted on and the tail is what you actually own.

A hatch is a hatch, a notchback is a notchback, and no amount of front end shopping changes the registration, the glass or the boot. That is why the naming works at all. Front half is the costume, rear half is the identity.

Does Any of It Matter

Purists will tell you a factory Sil80 is worth chasing and everything else is a bitsa. Clean original front ends on any S-chassis now cost more than the whole car did fifteen years ago, which is a decent argument for both sides.

The honest answer is that these names exist because enthusiasts fixed their own cars with whatever was in the shed. That is the best reason a car culture ever gets to name something.
