The Alfetta GTV was the fastback coupe variant of the 116 series, sharing the sedan's rear transaxle and De Dion suspension layout while offering a more sporting body penned by Giugiaro at Ital Design. It was offered across its production run with a range of twin-cam four-cylinder and V6 engines, the latter being the 2.5-litre Busso unit producing around 156 hp in its most potent form. The GTV also formed the basis for the turbocharged GTV6 2.0 and served as a platform for various European touring car racing efforts during the late 1970s and early 1980s.
