Ariel Motor Company Limited is a distinguished low-volume performance motor vehicle manufacturer based in Crewkerne, Somerset, England. Established in 1991 by Simon Saunders under the name Solocrest Ltd., the company initially aimed to revamp the classic Lotus Seven design. Leveraging his background as a transport design lecturer, Saunders collaborated with his student, Niki Smart, to develop cutting-edge CAD designs for the project.
Despite facing rejection from various sports car manufacturers for his innovative concept, Saunders persisted and eventually decided to establish his own company to bring his vision to life. This marked the beginning of Ariel's journey in the automotive industry with the creation of their iconic sports car model, the Atom.
