The Audi 80 is a compact executive car developed by Audi under the Volkswagen Group, produced between 1966 and 1996 across four generations. Throughout its production, the Audi 80 shared a platform with the Volkswagen Passat from 1973 to 1986. The models were available as a saloon and a station wagon, known as the Avant in Audi's marketing. Additionally, there were coupé and convertible variations derived from the same platforms that were not directly badged as part of the 80 range. For the North American and Australian markets, the Audi 80 was rebranded as the Audi Fox for model years 1973–1979, and then as the Audi 4000 for model years 1980–1987 in the USA. The model was further differentiated as the Audi 4000 5+5 starting in 1981 in the USA and as the Audi 5+5 in Australia from 1981 to 1983. The Audi 90 was positioned as a more upscale variant of the Audi 80, although all sedans of the B4th Gen in North America carried the Audi 90 designation.
