The Audi 80 was a compact executive car produced by Audi, a subdivision of the Volkswagen Group, from 1966 to 1996 in four generations. It shared its platform with the Volkswagen Passat between 1973 and 1986. The Audi 80 was available as a saloon and a station wagon, marketed as the Avant by Audi. The coupé and convertible models were based on the same platforms but not directly part of the 80 range. In North America and Australia, the Audi 80 was marketed under several different names over the years, including the Audi Fox from 1973 to 1979, the Audi 4000 from 1980 to 1987 in the USA, the Audi 4000 5+5 from 1981 in the USA, and the Audi 5+5 in Australia from 1981 to 1983.
