The 7 Series F01 xDrive, built from 2008 to 2012, brought BMW's all-wheel-drive system to the standard-wheelbase seventh-series sedan for the first time in this generation, pairing it with a 407 hp, 600 Nm powertrain for a 0-100 km/h time of 5.1 seconds. The addition of xDrive expanded the model's appeal in markets with harsh winter conditions without significantly compromising the rear-biased driving character BMW intended for the platform.
