The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW M GmbH, the brand's motorsport division. Since the introduction of the E30 M3 in 1986, M3 models have been produced for every generation of the 3 Series. Initially available as a coupé, a convertible body style was later introduced. The M3 has also been offered in saloon form during the E36 and E90 generations. In 2014, BMW rebranded the coupé and convertible models as part of the 4 Series range, leading to the high-performance variant being named the M4. Subsequent iterations of the 3 Series have continued to feature the M3 as a saloon variant.
