The Ford GT40 Mk IV was the final and most advanced version of the GT40 series, designed specifically for the 1967 racing season. It featured an entirely new chassis, known as the J-car chassis, which was constructed from lightweight honeycomb aluminum to reduce weight and improve structural rigidity. The Mk IV retained the 7.0-liter V8 engine from the Mk II but benefited from significant aerodynamic improvements, including a longer and more streamlined body. These changes allowed the Mk IV to reach a top speed of 212 mph, making it one of the fastest cars of its time. The Mk IV's most significant achievement was its victory at the 1967 24 Hours of Le Mans, where it set new records for speed and distance. However, the Mk IV's racing career was short-lived, as changes in FIA regulations at the end of 1967 rendered its large engine obsolete. Despite this, the Mk IV remains a legendary figure in motorsport history, celebrated for its innovative design and dominant performance in one of the most challenging endurance races in the world.
