Geo was a brand of small cars that operated under General Motors (GM) as part of its Chevrolet division from 1989 to 1997. It was established as a joint venture between GM and Japanese automakers in response to the increasing demand for small imported vehicles in the US market during the mid-1980s. The vehicles produced by Geo included subcompact cars and SUVs, many of which were badge engineered or based on Japanese models. These were manufactured by GM at its North American facilities or imported from Japan. After the 1997 model year, Geo was discontinued and integrated into Chevrolet.
