The Toyota 4Runner, a popular SUV produced by Japanese automaker Toyota, has been on the global market since 1984 through six generations. Originally known as the Toyota Hilux Surf in Japan, it was discontinued in 2009. Starting as a compact SUV resembling a Toyota Hilux pickup with a fiberglass shell, the 4Runner has evolved into a unique blend of compact and mid-size SUV characteristics through substantial independent development. Manufactured in Japan at Toyota's Tahara plant in Aichi or at the Hino Motors plant in Hamura, all 4Runners have maintained a high standard of quality. The name "4Runner" was ingeniously coined by copywriter Robert Nathan in collaboration with the Saatchi & Saatchi
