The Chevrolet Tahoe and its GMC Yukon counterpart are full-size SUVs and trucks offered by General Motors since 1994 and 1991, respectively. Before the introduction of the Tahoe and Yukon, Chevrolet and GMC sold different-sized SUVs under the "Blazer" and "Jimmy" nameplates. The smaller S-10 Blazer and S-15 Jimmy were introduced for the 1983 model year, alongside the full-size Blazer and Jimmy models. The situation with two different size categories for SUVs continued until the early 1990s. GMC first rebranded the full-size Jimmy as the "Yukon" in 1991, while Chevrolet introduced the redesigned mid-size S-10 Blazer as the "new Blazer" in 1994. The full-size Blazer was then renamed as the "Tahoe." The Tahoe name is inspired by the scenic and rugged area surrounding Lake Tahoe in the western United States and was initially used as a trim level on S-10 models.
