The Honda Inspire, originally known as the Accord Inspire, is a mid-size sedan that shares the chassis with the Honda Accord. It first appeared in late 1989 as a companion model to the Honda Vigor. In Japan, it was marketed under the Honda Verno nameplate for the Vigor/Saber and as the Inspire at Honda Clio stores. In 1995, the Inspire received updates and was introduced to the US market as the Acura 3.2 TL, while the Vigor was replaced by the Honda Saber. The model retained its longitudinal 2.5L straight-five engine layout and platform, also being sold as the Acura 2.5 TL. By 1999, the first generation Inspire/Acura TL models were succeeded by the second generation TL. These newer models were based on the US-spec Accord platform, with significant design and engineering contributions coming from Honda R&D Americas, Inc. Key Points: 1.
