Isdera, officially known as Ingenieurbüro für Styling, Design und Racing, is a bespoke German automaker famed for its elusive and high-performance sports cars. Founded by Eberhard Schulz, a former engineer at Porsche and Mercedes, Isdera first made headlines with the Imperator 108i, a car born from the ashes of the abandoned Mercedes-Benz CW311 concept. Produced between 1984 and 1993, the Imperator 108i was a rare marvel with only thirty units built, featuring a potent V8 engine and distinctive gullwing doors, showcasing design elements reminiscent of the iconic Mercedes C111. The company's commitment to unique, low-volume vehicles continued with models like the Commendatore 112i, which debuted in 1993. However, despite its ambitious engineering, Isdera faced financial challenges leading to limited production runs. In recent years, Isdera has ventured into partnerships, notably with WM Motors in 2017 to design and produce electric vehicles, indicating a shift towards sustainable mobility while maintaining its exclusive manufacturing ethos. Their latest model, the Commendatore GT, unveiled at Auto China 2018, retains the brand's hallmark gull-wing doors, signaling Isdera's enduring commitment to innovative design and exclusivity in the realm of specialty automobiles.
