Jaguar C-Type

1951 – 1953

Jaguar›C-Type

The Jaguar C-Type is a British factory racing car produced from 1951 to 1953, built specifically to compete at Le Mans and developed directly from the XK120 road car. Officially designated the XK120C, it used a tubular spaceframe chassis and a twin-cam 3.4-litre straight-six engine, with aerodynamic bodywork designed with input from Malcolm Sayer. The C-Type won the 24 Hours of Le Mans outright in 1951 and again in 1953, with the 1953 cars introducing disc brakes developed with Dunlop, marking one of the first race-winning applications of that technology at the highest level of endurance racing. A small number were also sold to privateers, and the works 1953 cars ran a fuel injection system in some configurations, though reliability issues led Jaguar to revert to carburettors during that race weekend.
