The Lotus Elise, introduced in 1996 by Lotus Cars, is a two-seater sports car with a rear mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout. Its fibreglass body shell rests upon a bonded extruded aluminium chassis, providing a lightweight and cost-effective yet rigid platform for the suspension system. The car was aptly named after Elisa Artioli, the granddaughter of then Lotus chairman Romano Artioli.

However, production of these models ceased in 2021, marking the end of an era for Lotus sports cars.
