Lotus Esprit S3

1982 – 1987

The Lotus Esprit, a classic sports car produced by Lotus Cars from 1976 to 2004, was manufactured at the Hethel, England factory. Featuring a rear mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout, it is renowned for its performance and design. Alongside the Lotus Elise/Exige, the Esprit remains one of Lotus' most enduring models, showcasing the brand's commitment to creating iconic sports cars. Designed by the prominent Italian designer Giorgetto Giugiaro, the Esprit introduced a groundbreaking aesthetic characterized by straight lines, hard edges, and a wedge-shaped profile, earning it the nickname "folded paper" design. This design language was revolutionary during its time and set the Esprit apart from other sports cars of that era. The Esprit's backbone chassis, a key structural component of the car, was later adapted to carry the body of the DeLorean, a well-known sportscar with a similar low-bodied and wedge-shaped design also penned by Giugiaro. This adaptation highlights the versatility and innovative engineering of the Esprit's chassis, which served as the foundation for other iconic vehicles. Key Points: 1.
