The Mazda Demio, known as the Mazda2 outside of Japan, is a subcompact/supermini/B-segment small car that has been in production since 1996. Initially sold across four generations in Japan under the Demio name, it was eventually rebranded as the Mazda2 even in its home market in 2019. The Demio is based on the Mazda D platform, which was also used for previous small cars like the Ford Festiva (also known as the Mazda 121) and the Mazda Revue. The name "Demio" comes from Latin and signifies possession, similar to "mio" in several Romance languages. Receiving critical acclaim, the third generation Demio was a top three finalist in the World
