The Ford Mondeo I, also known as the Mk I Mondeo, was a mid-size car produced by Ford that debuted on 23 November 1992, with sales commencing on 22 March 1993. The 1996 facelift models are often referred to as Mk II. This model was available as a four-door saloon, a five-door hatchback, and a five-door estate, manufactured in Ford's Genk plant in Belgium for the European market. The intention behind the Mondeo was to serve as a global car, replacing various models in different regions such as the Sierra in Europe, the Telstar in Asia, and the Contour/Mercury Mystique in North America. Despite being marketed as a world car, early versions of the Mondeo shared only a few external components with its North American counterparts, such as the windscreen, front windows, front mirrors, and door handles.
