MG is a British automotive marque with a rich history dating back to the 1920s when it was founded by Cecil Kimber. The marque gained widespread recognition through the British sports car manufacturer, M.G. Car Company Limited, which operated from 1930 to 1972. Initially started as a sales promotion sideline of Morris Garages in Oxford, MG cars were modified versions of standard production Morris Oxfords with the addition of MG Super Sports branding on the car's nose plate. In July 1930, a separate entity, M.G. Car Company Limited, was officially incorporated to focus on the production of MG cars.
