The Mitsubishi eK is a kei car series introduced by Mitsubishi Motors on October 11, 2001, based on the Minica model. The name "eK" stands for "excellent keijidōsha" or "excellent minicar" and is pronounced as "ee kay," resembling the Japanese phrase いい軽 meaning "good kei [car]". On June 8, 2005, Mitsubishi started supplying 36,000 eK Wagons annually to Nissan, which were sold in the domestic market under the name Nissan Otti. The Otti was eventually replaced by the Nissan Dayz on June 6, 2013, although it continued to be sold alongside the Dayz until its discontinuation on June 28, 2013. In April 2016, Mitsubishi confessed that its employees had manipulated fuel efficiency data for models including the eK Wagon, eK Space, Nissan Dayz, and Nissan Dayz Roox.
