The Mitsubishi eK is a kei car series developed by Mitsubishi Motors, initially launched on October 11, 2001. The name "eK" stands for "excellent keijidōsha", highlighting the focus on producing a high-quality minicar. The eK is based on the Minica platform and is pronounced "ee kay," resembling the Japanese term "いい軽," which means "good kei [car]." One interesting aspect of the Mitsubishi eK series is its collaboration with Nissan. Since June 8, 2005, Nissan has been receiving 36,000 eK Wagons annually from Mitsubishi for sale in the domestic market under the Nissan Otti nameplate. The Otti model was eventually replaced by the Nissan Dayz on June 6, 2013, with a transition period where both models were available until the Otti was discontinued on June 28, 2013. However, the Mitsubishi eK line faced a setback when in April 2016, Mitsubishi revealed that there had been falsification of fuel efficiency data for models including the eK Wagon, eK Space, as well as the Nissan Dayz and Nissan Dayz Roox.
