Nissan Caravan E24

1986 – 2001

The Nissan Caravan is a light commercial van primarily used as a fleet vehicle or cargo van, with manufacturing by Nissan beginning in 1973. The design features a cabover approach to adhere to Japanese Government dimension regulations, allowing for maximized interior space within defined exterior dimensions. From 1976 to 1997, a rebranded version known as the Nissan Homy was also available, initially introduced as a standalone model in 1965. Internationally, the Caravan has been marketed under various names, including Nissan Urvan and Nissan King Van, with earlier editions carrying Datsun badging. This adaptable van has served diverse markets by offering solutions for transportation and utility needs. The development of the Caravan was shaped by the necessity to maintain compliance with Japanese vehicle regulations, particularly in terms of annual taxation for larger vehicles. By utilizing the cabover design, Nissan effectively balanced interior capacity with external size constraints. Before the Caravan's launch in 1973, its counterpart, the Homy, already had a successful run as a standalone model from 1965 to 1976. The evolution of these models showcases Nissan's commitment to continuous improvement and market responsiveness. In summary, the Nissan Caravan is a versatile commercial van renowned for its efficient utilization of space, adherence to regulatory standards, and adaptability across various international markets under different names such as Urvan and King Van, making it a reliable choice for fleet and cargo transportation solutions since the 1970s.
