Panoz

Panoz, an iconic name in the American automotive landscape, has been synonymous with innovation and a deep-rooted passion for motorsports. Founded in 1989 by Dan Panoz, son of the pharmaceutical and real estate mogul Don Panoz, the company started its journey with the introduction of the Panoz Roadster. This vehicle, which initially utilized drivetrain components from the Ford Mustang GT, was designed with a lightweight structure and an eye towards the sports car scene, quickly finding its niche market. The 1990s saw Panoz Auto Development push the boundaries with their Aluminum Intensive Vehicle (AIV) Roadster, which featured an upgraded chassis and a more powerful Ford 4.6-liter, 32-valve V8 engine, highlighting the brand's commitment to performance and engineering excellence. As the company expanded, so did its ambitions in motorsports. The late 1990s marked the creation of the Panoz Motor Sports Group, which ventured into creating race cars like the Panoz Esperante GTR-1 that competed in prestigious events such as Le Mans, founded by Don Panoz as part of his vision to bring European-style endurance racing to America. The early 2000s saw the introduction of the Panoz Esperante, a luxury sports car that balanced performance with everyday usability, marking a significant evolution from the raw, track-focused Roadster. The brand continued to innovate with models like the Esperante GTLM and later, the Abruzzi and Avezzano, which were designed to offer both street and track capabilities. Despite the passing of Don Panoz in 2018, the Panoz legacy continues under Dan Panoz's leadership. The company remains a standout in the niche sports car market, avoiding the pitfalls that have ensnared many boutique manufacturers, and maintaining a strong connection to motorsports. The ongoing production of the Esperante and the introduction of models like the Avezzano showcase Panoz's ongoing commitment to combining high performance with luxury, continuing to capture the imaginations of car enthusiasts around the world.
