The Renault 5 is a popular supermini hatchback produced by French automaker Renault in two generations between 1972 and 1996. Initially introduced as the R5 and later known as the Super 5 or Supercinq, it featured a compact design with either three or five doors and the convenience of front-wheel drive. In the United States and Canada, the Renault 5 was sold as the Le Car from 1976 to 1983, catering to a wider market. Renault also offered a four-door sedan version called the Renault 7, produced in Spain by FASA-Renault from 1974 to 1984 for select markets outside France.
