Scripps-Booth

Scripps-Booth, an American luxury automobile brand founded in 1913 by James Scripps Booth, carved its niche in the early automotive era with distinctive design and innovative engineering. Rooted in the illustrious Scripps family—known for their contributions to publishing—Booth's venture into autos was driven by his artistic flair and a vision for unique luxury vehicles. The brand's debut model, the Bi-Autogo, was a remarkable creation featuring motorcycle-like wheels and a V8 engine, embodying Booth's ambition and unconventional approach. Despite the initial intrigue, Scripps-Booth struggled to sustain mainstream success amidst fierce competition and economic pressures. The brand, known for its stylish yet expensive models, like the refined 1916 Series 8000, could not achieve the sales volume necessary to secure its survival. By 1923, the company was absorbed into the larger General Motors family, where it quietly phased out. Today, Scripps-Booth is remembered more for its audacious beginnings and the aesthetic appeal of its vehicles than for any lasting commercial triumphs. Its legacy, preserved through collectors and historical enthusiasts, highlights a brief but bright foray into automotive innovation during the tumultuous early days of motorcar history.
