Toyota Corona ST160

1983 – 1987 · Japan

The Toyota Corona, manufactured by the Japanese automaker Toyota, was produced across eleven generations from 1957 to 2001. Initially positioned as Toyota's second-highest product, just below the Crown, the Corona was marketed in the Japanese domestic market (JDM) at Toyopet Store dealerships. It was also one of the first Toyota models to be exported globally, paving the way for the popular Toyota Corolla. The Corona's launch marked a significant milestone as it played a crucial role in Toyota's success in North America. Toyota had previously entered the North American passenger car market in 1957 as Toyopet but faced little success, leading to its withdrawal in 1961. However, the Corona's introduction saw a resurgence for Toyota in North America, setting the stage for the brand's growth and recognition in the region. Key Points: 1. The Toyota Corona was produced by Toyota across eleven generations from 1957 to 2001. 2. Positioned as Toyota's second-highest product initially, just below the Crown. 3. Marketed through Toyopet Store dealership channels in the JDM. 4. One of Toyota's early models exported to global markets before the Corolla. 5. Played a crucial role in Toyota's success in North America, following a previous unsuccessful attempt with the Toyopet. 6. The Corona's North American presence marked a turning point for Toyota's reputation and market growth in the region.
