Kia's EV5 is the family-sized electric SUV that finally makes the brand's EV range feel complete. And it leans into practicality over gimmicks.

SUV First, EV Second

The EV5 rides on Kia's dedicated E-GMP platform. It is shaped like a proper boxy SUV, not a swoopy coupe pretending to be one, which means real headroom and a usable boot.

Kia is selling it as an authentic SUV, accessible rather than aspirational. This is a mid-size hauler meant to undercut pricier electric rivals without feeling stripped out.

Two batteries are offered, 60.3 kWh and 81.4 kWh, with the bigger pack paired to a 160 kW motor.

The Range Number

That 81.4 kWh version targets up to 530 km on the WLTP cycle. Fast charging runs 10 to 80 percent in about 30 minutes, with 11 kW AC for home top-ups.

It lands in a crowded part of the market, squaring up to the Skoda Enyaq, VW ID.4 and Tesla Model Y, while undercutting most of them on price.

A heat pump comes standard, working with regenerative braking to protect range when it gets cold. It is the sort of detail family buyers feel every winter.

A Lounge on Wheels

Inside, the second row folds fully flat to 0 degrees, and the front seats add heating, ventilation and a massage function. Kia is openly chasing comfort here.

There is proper room for child seats and tall teenagers alike, and the flat floor means the middle seat is no longer a punishment on the school run.

Dynamic ambient lighting sets the mood, and boot space is a generous 566 litres to the load cover, with a flat extended floor and a 44-litre frunk up front for cables.

Power From the Battery

Like its EV siblings, the EV5 runs Vehicle-to-Load, so it can power tools, a camp fridge or your gear straight from the battery. That turns a campsite or a worksite into easy territory.

When and Where

The global rollout started in the second half of 2025 in Korea and Europe, with Canada following in early 2026. More markets are lining up.

For families weighing an electric SUV, the EV5 is shaping up as one of the easiest to live with.

Expect right-hand-drive markets like the UK and Australia to sit high on Kia's list, given how well the EV6 and EV9 have already sold there.
