The Suzuki Jimny is a popular series of four-wheel-drive off-road mini SUVs produced by Japanese automaker Suzuki since 1970. Originally designed to comply with Japan's kei class regulations for light automobiles, Suzuki continues to offer a kei-compliant version for both domestic and global markets, as well as versions that surpass kei-class restrictions. As of September 2018, Suzuki reported selling 2.85 million Jimnys in 194 countries worldwide. The history of Suzuki's venture into four-wheel-drive vehicles dates back to the 1960s when the company purchased a Steyr-Puch Haflinger for research purposes, aiming to develop a kei-class off-road vehicle. The acquisition of the bankrupt Hope Motor Company in
