The Toyota Matrix, also known as the Toyota Corolla Matrix, is a compact hatchback produced by Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada in Cambridge, Ontario. It was launched in 2002 as a 2003 model following a collaboration between Toyota and General Motors. The GM variant of the Matrix is known as the Pontiac Vibe and was manufactured by New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc. in Fremont, California.
Positioned as a sporty hatchback alternative to the North American Corolla, the Matrix shares many mechanical components with its counterpart. However, both vehicles feature unique sheet metal and exterior design elements tailored to their respective brands. Despite the differences in appearance, the Matrix and Vibe are closely related in terms of internal features.
