Lowriders get the headlines, but the truck world has its own slam scene, and it goes just as low. Mini truckin takes small pickups, lays them flat on the ground, and throws sparks off the frame for fun.

Small Trucks, Big Attitude

Mini truckin took off in the 1980s and 1990s around compact pickups. The Toyota, the Nissan, the Chevrolet S10, the Ford Ranger and the Mazda became the canvases of choice.

These little trucks were cheap, plentiful and easy to modify. Young builders grabbed them and set about doing one main thing. Getting them lower than anyone thought possible.

Laid Out on the Ground

The signature move is laying the truck flat on the tarmac. Builders use air suspension and body drops so the frame itself rests on the ground when parked. This is known as laying frame or laying body.

Dragging the frame while rolling throws sparks and makes a show of it. Air ride lets the truck lift up to actually drive, then slam back down at the meet. It is theatre on wheels.

Shaved and Smoothed

Mini trucks go heavy on the smooth look. Door handles, badges, aerials and bed seams get shaved away for a clean body. Roll pans replace bumpers. The whole truck reads as one flowing shape.

Then come the custom touches. Wild paint, murals and airbrush work are common. Beds get filled with hydraulics, sound systems or displays. Interiors get fully customised. No panel is left plain.

A Tight Community

Mini truckin has always been about the crew. Clubs formed strong bonds, travelling to shows and camping out together at big events. The scene mixes fierce competition with genuine friendship.

The events are legendary, drawing bagged trucks from far and wide to lay frame in rows and battle for best in show. It is a whole lifestyle, not just a build style.

Low Riding for Trucks

Mini truckin proves the slam bug bites every corner of the car world. Take the low and clean ideals of lowriding, apply them to a compact pickup, and you get a scene bursting with creativity.

Sparks, air ride and shaved smooth bodies make mini trucks unmistakable. They lie flat on the ground and dare the rest of the world to go lower. Few scenes are this committed to the deck.
