Derways Automobile Company, established in 2003, marks a significant chapter in Russian automotive history as the first private car manufacturer in the region. Based in Cherkessk, Karachay-Cherkessia, the company was a venture by the Mercury Group, aiming to infuse the market with innovative vehicle designs. The brand launched its first model, the Derways Cowboy, in 2004. This SUV was notable for its assembly on a chassis borrowed from the Romanian ARO 244, blending robustness with functional design. In its prime, Derways expanded its lineup to include a variety of models like the Aurora, Land Crown, and Shuttle, mainly through rebadging Chinese designs to cater to local tastes and requirements.
