The Hyundai Stellar was a large family car manufactured by the South Korean Hyundai Motor Company from July 1983 until 1992. It replaced the Ford Cortina, which Hyundai had previously produced under license. Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, the Stellar utilized a rear-wheel drive chassis from the Cortina Mark V. The engine and transmission technology for the Stellar were licensed from Mitsubishi Motors. Initially offered with 1.4 L and 1.6 L inline-four engine options paired with either a 4- or 5-speed manual transmission or a 3-speed automatic transmission, by 1987 a more powerful 2.0 L engine was introduced.
