The Lada Granta, a subcompact car, was jointly developed by Russian automaker AvtoVAZ and Renault, utilizing the platform of the Lada Kalina. Sales of the Lada Granta commenced in Russia on December 1, 2011, signaling the beginning of its mass market availability. Production of the vehicle expanded to the Izhevsk plant starting in September 2012, following the cessation of the old VAZ-2107 model's production. In an effort to refresh and modernize their lineup, a five-door hatchback edition of the Lada Granta was introduced in 2014, with the intention of serving as a replacement for the discontinued Lada Samara 2 series.
