Maserati A6

1947 – 1956

The Maserati A6 was an Italian grand touring sports car produced from 1947 to 1956, representing the Modena manufacturer's first serious postwar road car effort and a significant step toward combining racing pedigree with road-going usability. The A6 lineage encompassed several distinct variants across its production run, most notably the A6G/54, which used a twin-cam 2.0-liter inline-six engine and was bodied by coachbuilders including Frua, Zagato, and Pininfarina, resulting in some of the most celebrated Italian coachbuilt designs of the 1950s. The earlier A6 1500 of 1947 used a single-cam 1.5-liter six derived from Maserati's prewar racing experience, while the A6GCS served as a more focused competition variant that achieved results in sports car racing of the period. Production numbers across all variants were small, with the coachbuilt nature of the cars meaning that virtually no two examples were identical, which contributes to their considerable collector significance today.
