The Mitsubishi Pajero, a full-size SUV manufactured by Mitsubishi, was introduced in 1981 and discontinued in 2021 after four generations. The name Pajero comes from Leopardus pajeros, the Pampas cat. Due to the term Pajero being derogatory in Spanish (meaning "wanker"), Mitsubishi marketed the SUV as Montero in North America, Spain, and Latin America (excluding Brazil and Jamaica). In the UK, it was known as the Shogun, which translates to "General" in Japanese. The model was discontinued in North America in 2006, with a global presence. Despite sharing the Pajero, Montero, and Shogun names, other models were not mechanically related to the full-size SUV. The Pajero Mini was a kei car, the Pajero Junior and Pajero iO/Pinin were mini SUVs, and the Triton-based Pajero/Montero/Shogun Sport were mid-size SUVs.
