The Willys MB and the Ford GPW, known as the U.S. Army 1⁄4-ton, 4x4 Command Reconnaissance vehicles, were popularly referred to as the Willys Jeep or simply jeep. These light military utility vehicles were produced during World War II from 1941 to 1945, totaling over 600,000 units built to a single standardized design. This immense production volume marked them as the world's first mass-produced four-wheel-drive cars. The jeeps played a crucial role as the primary light, wheeled, multi-role vehicles for the United States military and its allies during the war. President Eisenhower famously described the jeep as one of the three decisive weapons the U.S. possessed in WWII.
