Eagle, a now-defunct marque of Chrysler Corporation, was born out of the American automotive industry's period of consolidation and ambition in the late 1980s. Founded in 1988 following Chrysler's acquisition of American Motors Corporation (AMC), Eagle was envisioned as a maker of innovative and somewhat unconventional vehicles. The brand's identity was a blend of AMC's spirit and Chrysler’s resources, aiming to capture a niche market of auto enthusiasts looking for something different from the mainstream offerings. Eagle’s initial lineup was diverse, spearheaded by the Eagle Premier, a sedan designed to combine European styling and American engineering. This model was a significant stepping stone as it was developed through a partnership with Renault, which emphasized a blend of performance and luxury—a novel idea at the time. Despite its promising start and a lineup that included interesting models like the all-wheel-drive Eagle Talon—a favorite among rally enthusiasts—the brand struggled to gain a solid foothold in a competitive market.
