The Nissan Caravan is a light commercial van that has been in production since 1973. It is primarily used as a fleet vehicle or cargo van. The vehicle was also sold as the Nissan Homy from 1976 to 1997, although the Homy existed as a separate model since 1965. In markets outside Japan, the Caravan was known as the Nissan Urvan or Nissan King Van, and earlier versions were badged as Datsun. All generations of the Nissan Caravan follow a cabover design, a result of Japanese Government regulations that tax larger vehicles annually based on their dimensions.
